When Samson looks like a superhero, we’ve lost the point of this historical account. Samson, released in 2018, promotes the misconception that Samson was a Christian superhero saving the day with his superhuman brawn. Scene after scene we watch Samson rage on various opponents, flexing his well-oiled muscles, and tossing his silky hair side to side. If I hadn’t read the Bible I wouldn’t have understood that Samson isn’t a mythical bodybuilder, Samson’s a man in need of a Savior.
Samson is a story about a man’s weaknesses, not his strengths. Samson’s temper and inability to resist temptation leads to captivity. To portray his life in a comparable manner to the Hulk misses the point completely.
God supplies strength and salvation to the weary Christian.
Psalm 33:16-19 (NIV)
No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
While it may be fun to tell Bible stories on steroids, it’s misleading. Mankind struggles with humility, like Samson, and only truly finds strength in submission to God.
Isaiah 40:29 (ESV)
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.
If you have a spare 110 minutes, give Samson a whirl. Tell me what you think.
I would never go to a ‘Bible based movie’ because it is not Bible truth. Hollywood is so corrupt since the beginning. .:))

I’d like to see “Christian” films succeed because I’m always hoping the next step includes more Biblical accuracy and higher quality. Movies are the popular medium of America, so I’d love to have great Biblical films available.

I agree but they need to be produced by Truebelievers, scripted and acted by these believers, someone who actually reads the Bible. :))

Haha! Yes, reading the Bible would help. Big time movies have budget’s for random experts…why don’t Christian films hire a Theologian???

Trouble is that most people who claim ‘Christianity’ are not Holy Spirit lead. :*(

Right, not led by the Word or the Spirit.

I wasn’t a fan of this movie either. I do understand they have to reach an audience and adjust accordingly to the big screen, it they way it was done was weak. I agree they morphed the story’s intent and therefore ruined the lesson and missed the big picture.
